Scandals East, formerly Scandals, is now open! Located at 827 NE Alberta, the distinctive Mustard-colored building was originally the home of the nuns who served at St. Andrew's Catholic Church across the street. It is now home to Good Life Wellness Center on the 2nd floor, and Carioca Bowls and Scandals East on the 1st floor. Carioca Bowls serves Brazilian food featuring acai and is open daily from 9am to 3pm. Scandals East operates from 4pm to midnight, with dinner served from 5pm to 8pm.

The restaurant is open to all, regardless of age, and the menu is simple, healthy, affordable, fast, and tasty. I lived in New Mexico for several years and my love for New Mexican food is featured in the menu. Enjoy carne adovada (pork slow cooked in red chile sauce), pollo, black beans, pinto beans, and rice. The concept is simple: Build a platter and choose a variety of toppings, such as red or green chile, cilantro aioli, cheese, or pico de gallo. Drinks and dessert are also available.

The bar, which is 21+, serves signature cocktails, local wines, bottled beers, and a limited/rotating selection of draught beer and cider.

I am committed to continuing the traditions established at the old Scandals: Karaoke, Drag Race, Live Music, Last Thursday events, Art Installations, and of course the annual Pride Block Party. The new facility has a large outdoor seating area with a stage that will be perfect for events when the weather is nice.

I am also committed to providing a safe place for the queer/LBGTQIA+ community. I will continue my partnership with Peacock Productions, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, CAP, and others; Scandals has raised Tens of Thousands of dollars for charity over the last 20 years.

I have a personal connection with the new space. I bought the Nunnery in 2019, right before Covid hit. Lyle, my partner for 37 years, and I have lived in the neighborhood for 25 years. I graduated from high school in this neighborhood, as did both of my parents. My mother and her friends used to walk to what is now the Alberta Rose Theater for Saturday movie matinees.
